About

“Lots of people talk to animals. Not very many listen, though.
That's the problem.”
~Benjamin Hoff, The Tao of Pooh

Joy Aldrich, ABCDT

Joy Aldrich, owner and trainer for Joy for Dogs, has been an animal lover her entire life. Her background is in teaching humans - she holds a Master's in English, and previously taught college-level Writing and Critical Thinking as well as English to non-native speakers in Germany. Joy has been seriously involved in dog training since 2007, first as a student, then as an assistant, and finally as a trainer herself, putting her knowledge of teaching dogs and people together, opening Joy for Dogs in 2010. She continues to expand her knowledge of dog behavior and training through seminars, books, and continuing education courses. Her own Boxer, Cassie, recently earned the Canine Good Citizen certificate.

Joy's philosophy:

I believe in humane, pain-free Positive Reinforcement Training.

I believe that it's never too early or too late to start training!

I believe that patience, consistency and a commitment to solving the problem can resolve most issues.

I believe in having a “toolbox” of tricks, products and ideas and using a multi-sided approach to achieve desired behavior.

I believe that most dogs in shelters for behavior issues simply were not trained or did not know what their owners wanted of them.

Joy's ethical commitment:

I will conduct myself and my dog training business in a professional, ethical fashion while maintaining empathy and concern about each client's needs, as well as the well-being of each client's dog.

I will not engage in any service or take on training responsibilities for which I am not competent. I will seek answers and, if needed, assistance from other professional trainers if presented with a training challenge or scenario outside the range/scope of my experience or knowledge.

I will treat all animals in a humane fashion and not engage in training methods designed to cause physical or emotional harm.

Whenever possible, I will attempt to continue learning about dogs and training through reading and attending educational events.
